These tracks are from a collection of blues taken from both Africa and the U.S. The songs featured here are from the african side, it is soulful music played with both instruments created in the U.S. (electric guitars), but also with traditional instruments and rhythms. The first track is by Amadou-Mariam, the blind couple from Mali (pictured above).

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I have something special, download this mix, then take the party with you wherever you go. Music to get ready for the weekend..... It is funk old and new, but it's not just fun music, after a number of listens you'll start to realize the subtle genius of the songs.
This mix is Speakerfunk at its purest, music to pop in as you drive into your city, for the excitement you feel as you first see the skyline approaching in the distance.

This copy is all tracked out, (instead of one long mp3) so it is a ZIP file for download. Once the download finishes, open the folder and in the left corner of the window is an option to "Unzip the file" Once you do this another folder with all the mp3s will appear, and it will be ready to burn onto a disc or play on your computer. Pushing Boundries In the Bay Area

During a trip to San Francisco with my girlfreind this May, we were walking around the Haight district and happened upon the Future Primitive Sound Headquarters. From what we could see, it was a clothing store, that sold some vinyl and cds, and some art. It wasn't until I came home and checked out The Future Primitive Sound Website.
Then I realized the full scope of what was going on. "The Future Primitive is an Art Collective, consisting of an independent record label, painters, photographers, graffitti artists, a visual production crew, Graphic designers, Mc's and other spoken word artists, and other folks inspired to push the boundries of Urban art." They hold art shows in the store, have weekly Dj nights all over the city.
The now famous Dj Cut Chemist (of jurassic 5 fame) got his start with the future primitive. The session "Cut Chemist Vs Shortcut" inspired and led to the release of Brainfreeze Breaks, his breakthrough album with Dj Shadow. This album was a highmark in the late nineties resurgence in Dj Culture. The track I posted is from a soundtrack produced by the Future Primitive collective for the movie XIII. It is a track that practically defines the concept of Speakerfunk.

So, in honor of the opening of the Fantastic 4 movie, i've decided to post two tracks from "hip-hop supervillain" MF Doom's 2004 album "Mmmm.. Food." These two tracks are a good example of the clever, intelligent rhymes and smooth delivery that makes Doom such a genius. I've also posted a live set, called "Live From Planet X." To be honest, with the live set, you need alot of patience to get through the first 6 minutes or so, but if you sitck with it by the end of the set you'll be a beleiver. Possibly the best live hip hop set I've Heard.

A mostly instrumental mix of downtempo/world/ambient tracks, this one works in subtle ways, the beats only adding to the heat of these summer nights. Well, here is the first installment. A Dj(style) mix created by myself. Yes, i know alot of them are obvious choices, but I will be the first to admit that i'm a novice. Perfect for an Ipod. I mixed it down into one mp3 track to make it quicker and easier to download. For now, im going to have to rely on the magic of yousendit.com to share music for awhile, because the price is right.
